The project is focussing on sustainability from four important aspects: the environment, social development, the economy and history.
The environmental dimension of sustainability
The project will be sustainable right from its planning stage, throughout the construction process and during the buildings’ operational stage. Hence, PHA Consult, specialists in sustainability, will examine the location and the orientation of the buildings in accordance with the sun and winds, the management of waste in both the construction phase and in the buildings’ operational stage, as well as the treatment of waste water and the collection of rain water. Parks and gardens in the urban development, the reduction in traffic, and the implementation of renewable systems of energy generation will also be taken into account.
The social dimension of sustainability
In the social dimension, the project will be sustainable thanks to the combination of uses developed there: residential, retailing, hotel, school, offices…, and this will also be thanks to the creation of employment in each category.
The residential typology should welcome not only families but also single people, young or elderly, and an effort will be made to offer residences at reasonable prices.
The economic dimension of sustainability
The project ensures long term economic development. Investors, owners, and tenants will find unique and singular premises that will maintain their value with the passage of time.
The creation of direct and indirect employment in all activities, as well as the expenditure of these people, will bring wealth both to the area and to the country.
The project is thought of as long term because it will anticipate social and economic needs.
Moreover, in the economic dimension it must not be forgotten that quality of life is an element of progress and the basis of sustainability. That’s why the project offers a satisfactory environment for social relationships within the community, together with the possibility of working in creative employment and of living in a quality, pleasant, modern environment.
Historical dimension of sustainability
The project development takes into account the historical legacy inside its environment: the Romanic bridge and the Malreu fortress. The project will give these cultural assets the upmost importance by respecting their surroundings and ensuring their public access and interpretation. |
