Dynamic barrier at Prat de la Font

Molines Patrimonis builds a dynamic barrier, one of the biggest in the country, to prevent rockfall at Prat de la Font. 300 metre long and 8 metre high barrier was completed in 8 months.

Molines Patrimonis have finished the building of a dynamic barrier to prevent rockfall at Prat de la Font, Sant Julià de Lòria.
A dynamic barrier is a passive system of protection against rockfall as such systems do not prevent it, but stop rocks from crashing into other structures, facilities, vehicles or people in their path. The working principle is based on the absorption of the rock’s kinetic energy thanks to the buckling of the mesh and its braking system.

The dynamic barrier built by Molines Patrimonis at Prat de la Font is almost 300 metres long and 8 metres high and is divided into six sections. The sections have been placed overlapping one another in a way that allows wildlife to move around between them.

This is the biggest dynamic barrier in the country taking into account the height variant and the maximum level of energy it is able to absorb - 5000kj.
Construction started in October and has finished in June. The use of a helicopter was required. The work needed to meet strict deadlines established by the Department of the Environment as birds start to nest in spring, which posed a danger to the realisation of the project that had to be carried out using a helicopter. This was undoubtedly an added difficulty but, despite everything, the deadlines were met.
